What do you do when that pesky little thing called “life” messes with your desire to travel? Do you – like us – find a way to feed that need in a smaller way? A day hike in the mountains, perhaps? A night at a fancy, local hotel? How about heading to your favourite day spa for some serious foot scrubbing?

I get on the internet and start planning the next trip. There will be one, it may just be a little farther out than you want. Or we get together we friends that we have travelled with, open a bottle of wine, and go through photos of our trips.

I go out to the country for the day, maybe a day trip to Canmore or Cochrane or Kananaskis, or an afternoon spent wandering through Fish Creek. It never does “feed the need” though…

I watch movies that were filmed in places I’ve traveled. The Talented Mr. Ripley, The English Patient, Under the Tuscan Sun – these all take me to back to Italy… if only for two hours.

Ethnic restaurants hit the spot for me. I feel like I’m back in Mexico whenever I go for tacos and margaritas at Los Chilitos in Calgary. They even have an ATM inside the restaurant! Very authentic.
